Maison de Ferme is the principal unit at Vieux Mirou, a former farm which has been lovingly renovated by John and Anna Perry.
Conveniently situated on the borders of Lot-et-Garonne and Tarn-et-Garonne, none of the major attractions of the area are hard to get to with the major routes in all directions easily accessible.
Maison Ferme provides quality family accommodation for up to 10 people, and a neighbouring unit, Chez Nous, can be added to accommodate up to 16 people who can enjoy an exclusive pool and sun terrace. (See Chez Nous Below)
The front of Maison Ferme has a glorious display of roses at most of the time during the season, with a rose arch leading down towards the neighbouring unit Chez Nous.
Entering the front door, guests are impressed by the spacious fresh atmosphere of the house. The first room is the spacious lounge area with an open fireplace, sofas and the television. A cloakroom with WC is just inside the door.
A spacious ensuite double bedroom with shower room is off the Sitting Room offering ground floor accommodation for those who may find stairs a problem.
The Lounge area leads through to the Kitchen/Dining area. The spacious kitchen area has several runs of units offering plenty of workspace in addition to a tradition kitchen table. There is a gas cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave oven and a good range of utensils available. A large dining table in the Dining area offers plenty of space for a large party to dine together. Glazed doors lead out onto the terrace and pool area.
Wide easy stairs go up from the Sitting area leading to a Landing area where supplementary beds or cots can easily be set up, or this can be used as a quiet area for reading or study.
The remainder of the floor is given over to four bedrooms which are:
- Double bedroom with en suite shower room and WC
- Twin bedroom with en suite shower room and WC
- Double bedroom
- Twin bedroom
- Family bathroom between the latter two bedrooms with bath & shower over, basin and WC.
Glazed doors from the Kitchen/Dining room lead out onto the paved and gravelled sun terrace with table and chairs, sun loungers and shades.
Along with a charcoal barbecue, proximity to the Kitchen makes this an ideal al fresco dining area at all times of the day.
The poolside is accessed by a gate in the fenced surround. The 9 x 4m saltwater pool is for the exclusive use of Guests at Maison de Ferme.
A small grassed area beyond the pool is also available for guests to enjoy.
Vieux Mirou is just off a road that runs between Penne d'Agenais and Montaigu de Quercy: Heading for Penne d'Agenais takes you to the banks of the River Lot and all the activities on the river such as fishing, canoeing and boat hire: Heading towards Montaigu de Quercy takes you into the heart of the rolling countryside of the Quercy with a very large range of crops and vegetables growing, alongside sunflowers, cereals and vines.
Much of the produce can be bought at markets, and there are lists of the local markets on the Area information at the top of this page, along with other restaurant recommendations and wineries. The area to the east of Penne d'Agenais and along the River Lot is the heartland of the Cahors AOC with a large number of wineries offering tastings and direct sales of the delicious red and white wines.
For something curious, head across the river at Penne d'Agenais to find La Stelsia, a colourful park where you can freely wander around the manicured parkland, and enjoy excellent food and drink in the restaurants if you wish: If you fancy a testing crazy golf course, this is the place to go!
Heading to the north on the other side of the river you will find a number of castles: Biron and Bonaguil are the most complete, and both open to visitors, and you will find other ruins as you travel.
This is the country of bastide villages - fortified hilltop villages, and within easy reach of Vieux Mirou you can wander the streets of Pujols. Lauzerte, Montaigu de Quercy, Tournon d'Agenais, Monflanquin and Villereal and marvel at the medieval timbered buildings that still survive today.
Historic Cahors is the gateway to cave country, and guests can visit a number of caves in the limestone area including Pech Merle, and a little futher away the world famous Lascaux cave paintings.
