Le Manoir gîtes were developed when the Stable Block and Pigeonnier Tower were renovated by the Cassany de Mazet family a few years ago, and now offer accommodation for up to 32 people in various sized gîtes as detailed below. They are situated a few yards from Le Manoir itself, a very elegant 17th century French aristocratic residence, which makes a grand setting in which to spend time.
Le Manoir offers families the chance to experience life around a French Manoir whilst having the facilities of a town close at hand. Guests, particularly children, are encouraged to integrate with other guests, and there are many games and other items of play equipment on the 2 acre site to help with this. Le Manoir would also suit families who want the social aspects of a camping holiday in somewhat greater comfort and style.
Personally owned and run by The Countess Cassany de Mazet, she takes an active interest in making sure all guests are settled, and keeping guests informed of what may be happening in nearby Villeneuve sur Lot for both children and adults. She is particularly keen to tell English and American guests the part that this area played in English history, with Richard I (The Lionheart) and his mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine both from the locality.
The standard and quality of these gîtes is superior, and stand as a testament to the enthusiasm and eye for detail of the Countess's late husband. Le Manoir will appeal to families who are looking for places where there is plenty for children to do, and enjoy interaction with others. To have the gentle atmosphere of a historic French country town on the banks of a major river close at hand is a bonus.
The Owners say...
"We welcome guests to share Le Manoir with us. We hope that you and your family will enjoy the facilities we have provided for guests, and also enjoy the surrounding area"
NOTE - Images may not be of the actual gîte, but accurately reflect the style and quality of the property as a whole
Le Manoir is approached along a straight road, and through an automatic gate through which Le Manoir can be seen as it is approached (above). An open gravelled area provides plenty of parking by the gîtes
All gîtes are centrally heated, and suitable for all year round occupation. All gîtes have their own exclusive patio and garden area with furniture and barbecue provided
Entering Le Pigeonnier, the Ground floor is an open plan Sitting /Dining room with Kitchen.
Furniture in the Dining area includes comfortable chairs, Dining Table & chairs and the television.
The Kitchen is equipped with Cooker with oven, Fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher and Washing Machine. The Kitchen and utility equipment is the same in each gîte at Le Manoir.
Stairs lead up to the First Floor where there is a good sized Double bedroom with wardrobe, and a Twin bedroom with comfortable seating as a second sitting room. The Bathroom is also on this floor, with a bath with shower attachment, and basin. Separate wc
Upstairs again is the Second Floor which has only a Twin Bedroom that is very suitable for children.
The 1ha (2.5acre) site of Le Manoir is available for guests to enjoy and explore, other than inside the main house itself. There is a secure fence right around Le Manoir.
Each Gîte has its own dedicated outdoor patio and grassed area with garden furniture including sunshade and barbecue.
Opposite the Gîtes is The Barn in which there are table tennis and table football tables, bicycles and other activity equipment. This is a large shaded space should the conditions (which the Countess describes as made for making 'Les Pruneaux d'Agen') be too hot to stay outdoors.
More grassed areas outdoors have swings, climbing frames, a sandpit and trampolines before the Swimming Pool with its own large Pool House is reached.
The Pool House is split into three sections: The first is a changing area, which has showers and wc incorporated. The central part, with the door in and security door onto the poolside, has comfortable seating and a bar and kitchen for food preparation by the pool, and the third has a very large cupboard which is filled with an assortment of board games and other entertainments to provide hours of amusement away from the Pool and the Barn.
Within the fenced Swimming Pool enclosure is a large sun terrace, and poolside furniture including sunshades is provided. The pool measures 14 x 7m and is just for the use of guests at the Gîtes. Depths are from 0.9 to 1.8m, and there are Roman steps for safe entry into the water. There is also an alarm that is activated when the pool is not in use. Water purity is maintained with Chlorine.
Spacious grassed areas offer plenty of space for any number of simultaneous ball games to take place, and there are many fine mature trees around Le Manoir, including a bamboo patch. A free ranging collection of poultry will be seen around, along with a good natured Pot Bellied Pig who is much loved and photographed.

Le Manoir is in a quiet residential suburb of Villeneuve-sur-Lot (all of which originally belonged to Le Manoir), and the centre of the town through which the River Lot runs is only a 5-10 minute walk away.
Villeneuve sur Lot is a busy town with theatres, concerts and other events always on, especially during the holiday season, and there is always information available on the town's events. A particular feature is the market, held on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with many stalls selling all kinds of fresh produce and other items. There are a good choice of bars and restaurants and general shopping.
Two bridges over the river, Le Pont du Liberation and Le Pont du Cieutat, with riverside paths between make for a very pleasant circular walk or cycle ride, and there are also many activities on the river, including boat trips and fishing. Much more information on Villeneuve-sur-Lot and what is going on can be found at their Tourist Information site
Villeneuve has a rich medieval history with much remaining in evidence, especially the churches. Some of the medieval bastide fortifications can also be seen, in particular the 'Porte du Pujols'. the ancient gatehouse for the town.
Taking the old Roman road through that gate takes you directly to Pujols, a medieval hill town with commanding views over Villeneuve-sur-Lot and the area around, with other hilltop towns including Montflanquin and Villereal visible in the distance. Pujols is listed in 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France' and is a very interesting visit.
For those seeking the true fortified chateaux, Chateau de Bonaguil and Chateau Biron are both about 25km (16 miles) away, and their impressive buildings and landscapes around are an excellent day out. More information will be found in The Area above.
The countryside beyond the town is a veritable food basket, with acres of sunflowers and cereals growing alongside vineyards, soft fruit orchards, vegetables and walnuts. Much of the soft fruit is plum, and most of these go to make the renwned Pruneaux d'Agen, and the Visitor centre for les Pruneaux is surprisingly interesting. Many wineries in the area are open for tastings and direct purchase.
There are several historic villages in spectacular surroundings in the area, especially Penne d'Agenais with a silver domed Byzantine style church on top of its hilltop. The strategic nature of this peak was recognised by Richard I (the Lionheart) who fortifed the hilltop during the time that he was lord of the whole region, an inheritance from his mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine.
