Vue de Lendou takes its name from the view across the valley through the archway opposite the Apartment, across the valley where the River Lendou flows past the historic hilltop town of Lauzerte. Vue de Lendou is less than 100m off the main square of Lauzerte, La Place des Cornieres.
A spacious apartment for 2 people, or for a small family, Vue de Lendou is an ideal base for exploring Lauzerte and the surrounding countryside between Cahors and Toulouse. Being on one of the 'Routes de Saint Jacques', (ancient pilgrimage routes), Lauzerte is popular with walkers as they make their way towards the Spanish border where the routes converge before going on to Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain.
Very tastefully decorated and furnished by the Owners who work in interior design, Vue de Lendou is available all the year round, and has the exciting option for painters and other artists of weekly rental of the Gallery downstairs to exhibit and sell their works to the passing tourist trade.
The Owners say...
"We refurbished the Gallery and Apartment in 2015, and invite guests to enjoy the gentle peace of the medieval streets of Lauzerte"
Arriving in the medieval part of Lauzerte, on street parking is available free of charge subject to space: In busier times the school yard is available to park in, or space will be found outside the village walls, approx 200m away, all free of charge.
Entering from the street, there is a wide passage which can be a secure store for bicycles, walking boots etc. The stairs lead to the Apartment.
The first room is the spacious Sitting / Dining room with carefully chosen furniture with a traditional style, but sitting very easily with the contemporary neutral tones of the decor. Large comfortable seating affords plenty of space for a couple to relax.
The round Dining Table with 4 chairs has a contemporary overhead light.
The modern bespoke Kitchenette of excellent quality, made and installed by the Owners themselves, is contemporary in style and decoration.
A good range of equipment for an Apartment of this size includes Hob, Oven, Microwave oven and a Fridge with freezer compartment along with a useful assortment of other utensils.
The spacious Master Bedroom has a King size double bed, bedside furniture, wardrobe and plenty more space for storage.
From this bedroom, there is a smaller room with Bunk Single beds.
Please note that the rates for Vue de Lendou are based on 2 people sharing one bedroom, and extra persons in these small bunks will attract a supplementary charge.
Off this room is the quality Shower room, with basin and wc.
Doors open out onto a balcony which overlooks the medieval streets of Lauzerte which by their nature will rarely have vehicles of any size, and very few cars at all: Most of the traffic will be tourists exploring the streets on foot.
Other than the Balcony listed above, Vue de Lendou has no outdoor space. The door opens onto the medieval street less than 100m from the famous Place des Cornieres in Lauzerte, with its noted turned up corner. There are restaurants and the Tourist Information office around the Square.
Immediately opposite the door to Vue de Lendou is an archway with a gorgeous view across the countryside beyond, and walking through the archway brings you down to the medieval walls of the fortified town which can be accessed at several points, each offering gorgeous views.
The narrow streets are lined with tall timbered houses, and have a distinct warmth and charm.
Lauzerte has two markets each week: On Tuesday in the Lower Town at le Place de Forail, and on Saturday in the square by Vue de Lendou ( Place des Cornieres)

As stated before, Lauzerte is a centre for walkers on the long distance trail that runs across France to Spain, and there are many other walking routes in the area available from the Tourist Information office and other guidebooks. Cycling is also good in the area with quiet roads through the gentle countryside - although the hills are always worth the climb for the spectacular views.
The area is steeped in history, as there are several other hilltop fortified villages nearby, the so called 'Bastides' including Montaigu de Quercy, Beauville and Tournon d'Agenais.
Further afield Cahors has a long history reaching back into Roman times, and a little futher north there are a number of prehistoric and neolithic sites of note, including the UNESCO listed Lascaux caves.
To the south are the historic and attractive towns of Montauban and Moissac: The former noted for its gentle pink stone, and the latter for the stunning architecture and masonry of the cloisters in l'Abbe de St Pierre.
The spectacular Aveyron Gorge is within a reasonable drive with its own village of note, St Antonin Noble Val.
Two more of 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France' are within reach: Just east of Cahors is St Cirq Lapopie, and along the Lot valley to the west is Pujols, just south of Villeneuve sur Lot
The area of the Lot valley is noted for food and wine production, and vineyards around Lauzerte produce the full bodied Cahors wines that are of note to wine connoiseurs. Many of the wineries have tastings and offer direct sale prices, and as a bonus many are based in Chateaux and Manoirs that make the visit worthwhile on its own.
Much other food is grown in the area, and is available from artisan producers at the weekly markets held on Tuesday and Saturday in Lauzerte, and at many other villages and towns locally every day of the week: A list is in 'The Area' information at the top of this page.
