Le Habitat lies along a medieval street close to the centre of the historic town of Figeac in the eastern part of the Lot département. Available all year, the property has electric heating, and has internet access by wi-fi
Figeac sits beside the river Célé, which is a tributary of the River Lot: The most spectacular sections of the River Lot including the village of St Cirq La Popie perched high above the river gorge are within easy distance, as is the cliff village of Rocamadour and the Gouffre de Padirac and other cave systems that are open in the area. Pictured is the giant replica of the Rosetta Stone, the key to unlocking the translation of Egyptian hieroglyphic writing which is on the 'Place des Escrtitures' in Figeac: Jean-Francois Champollion who made the links was born in Figeac.
Le Habitat is on a narrow medieval street, and there is a ground floor garage suitable for a compact / small car. (Max width 1600mm, max height 2015mm) Otherwise there is plenty of free parking nearby in the town.
Entering from the street, steps lead upstairs to the spacious LOUNGE with comfortable seating and a quality dining table and chairs seating 5 people. A well organised layout includes television and internet. There is a small wc off.
A door leads through to the impressive KITCHEN with a 5 ring electric hob and large oven set in an impressive fireplace. A good selection of appliances includes Microwave oven, large Fridge / Freezer, Washing machine and Tumble drier.
There are dining tables in both the Kitchen and the Lounge.
There is a television here and wifi installed, so streaming news, films and music is rarely a problem.
Stairs lead from the Lounge to the second floor. A corridor leads to:
BEDROOM 1 - King size Double bed. Large Wardrobe.
BEDROOM 2 - A spacious Twin bedroom with chest of drawers and hanging rail. Steps to BEDROOM 3
BEDROOM 3 - Single bed in mezzanine area
SHOWER ROOM
The high quality Shower room includes:
- Shower
- Basin
- WC
As with all Halcyon Leisure lets, rentals include all bed linen and bathroom towels. Le Habitat has electric heating throughout, and a heating supplement is payable during the winter months.
There are no outdoor areas at Le Habitat, but there are parks and open areas around the town of Figeac to enjoy.
All town amenities, including restaurants, shops and boulangeries are within easy walking distance along the quiet medieval streets. The weekly market is held every Saturday.
The town of Figeac is a beautiful old town with many buildings dating back up to 700 years. The Champollion Museum in the town is dedicated to Louis Phillipe Champollion, the original decipherer of the Rosetta Stone, and there is a giant replica to view within a few yards of Le Habitat.
Other major tourist attractions within an easy drive are the cliff villages of Rocamadour and St Cirq La Popie. Figeac is also on the limestone plateau of the Causse de Quercy, with cave systems including Le Gouffre de Padirac and Pech Merle recommended to visit.
A little further to the north is the UNESCO World Heritage site at Lascaux, where a new visitor centre for the world famous cave paintings is now established.
The spectacular limestone Aveyron Gorge is nearby, and offers climbing and advanced canoe/kayak expeditions: The less brave may prefer the gentler waters of the rivers Lot and Dordogne, both close to Figeac. The Dordogne valley is also noted for its scenery and a selection of spectacular castles along its banks.
The regional and historic centre of Cahors with the Pont Valente over the River Lot among its attractions is an easy drive away.
Figeac is on the well known GR 65 Walking route which is the ancient pilgrim route to St Jaques de Compostela in Northern Spain. This route goes across the River Lot at Cahors, and on to the historic towns of Montcuq and Lauzerte. It is clearly marked with either brass scallops, or actual scallop shells.
