The central feature of Loubas village is the 14m x 6m saltwater swimming pool, with integral steps and poolside furniture. One house, La Grange, has a first-floor terrace with a clear view over the pool enabling supervision from a distance if required.
Poolside furniture and pool toys are provided.
Beyond the car park is a large grassed area, ideal for ball and racquet games, and the surface of the car park is also ideal for boules. Bicycles are available, and as Loubas is on the edge of a ridge, these are motorised to assist with the return journey if you decide to return by the uphill route.
Loubas is situated in a very quiet and unspoiled countryside: Most of the activity in the area is agricultural, and the area is ideal for exploring on foot or by bicycle.
Some activity weeks are also run at Loubas - Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for details of activities on offer.
As you travel around the area that borders Lot-et-Garonne and Tarn-et-Garonne you will see a very wide range of crops growing: Alongside the usual cereals, fodder crops and sunflowers you will find fruit, vegetables and nuts growing, and most of these can be found at the local markets. There will be a market somewhere near every day of the week, and details of these can be found in the Area information above.
During the summer there are also evening gourmet markets, where it is very pleasant to purchase food - either typical finger type food or a complete dish - and enjoy eating it to the accompaniment of local music in busy surroundings.
History and natural history abound in the area: Many of the nearby villages are medieval fortified 'bastide' villages with many original buildings and features, and the views over the countryside from the villages betray Roman activity in the area with long straight roads clearly visible across the landscape. The view to the north from Loubas village looks towards the Perigord, and on clear days Chateau Biron can be seen on the skyline: This and nearby Bonaguil are two complete castles that are both open to visitors. Closer to Loubas is the silver domed basilica at the top of Penne d'Agenais, and it is recorded that Richard I of England (The Lionheart) built fortifications here.
Also at Penne d'Agenais, you will find the River Lot, and a selection of water-based activities including boat hire, fishing, canoeing and more.
Further afield, the area to the north of Cahors has some amazing cave systems that can be explored, the best known being Pech Merle, and for archaeologists, the world-famous cave paintings at Lascaux with a 2016 visitor interpretation centre can also be visited.
To the south, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Moissac Abbey and Cloisters is a major attraction, and a visit is often combined with a visit to the rose-coloured town of Montauban with its famous square.
And for something completely different...
Across the river from Penne d'Agenais is St Sylvestre Sur Lot, and on the outskirts of the town, you will find Le Stelsia which has been developed into a colourful (literally!) park for all to enjoy: Entrance is free, and there are several unusual features around the carefully landscaped grounds. A challenging crazy golf course is a great attraction, and the restaurants and bars have a reputation for excellent food - although not cheap.
