Le Barry is a private part of a very large farmhouse on the edge of a peaceful hamlet in peaceful countryside a few miles from Montaigu de Quercy.
It offers good family accommodation for those with young active children and the layout also makes it ideal for a couple seeking a peaceful escape to the country. It is well equipped for anyone wanting to enjoy quality time with active children in the French countryside, or for adults seeking a peaceful break.
An outdoor terrace leads onto an open field of around 2ha giving a delightful setting in which to escape from everyday life for a while. Without fences or gates in sight there is a great impression of space and freedom
Le Barry is off a very quiet country road with a lot of space for shaded parking.
The Main door opens into the spacious Living area with Kitchen, Dining and Sitting areas.
The KITCHEN has a good run of fitted units with a gas hob, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher and a good selection of smaller appliances and utensils. (An electric oven is in a separate run of units)
The LOUNGE area has a sofa, two armchairs with satellite television and DVD player. A dining table with seats for 5 completes the living area.
BEDROOM 1 - Spacious double bedroom with large storage cupboard containing baby equipment: Armchairs.
BEDROOM 2 - Three Single beds, with very large storage room.
The BATHROOM has a large walk in shower, wc and basin.
GAMES ROOM containing Table tennis, Table football, darts, badminton, boules, bicycles and golf clubs. A selection of other bats and balls is also included.
A laundry area including the Washing Machine is also in the Games room
The doors open onto the north facing terrace which with the height of the building offers gentle shade for most of the day, and this helps to keep the temperature down indoors.
The terrace includes a good range of outdoor furniture including sun loungers, dining table and chairs, large swinging lounger and a swing seat.
All overlook the large field beyond which allows space for recreation under supervision. A boules pitch has been incorporated into a former building with boules available in the games room.
A circular above ground SWIMMING POOL, exclusive to Guests, is at the end of the terrace with an average depth of around 1.3m making it safe for young swimmers. A poolside shower is beside the entry steps: Floating toys are also provided.
Le Barry offers excellent family accommodation with plenty to do for active children in a quiet country location away from busy roads.
Le Barry sits in a quiet agricultural landscape with a lot to explore and see. The nearby towns of Montaigu de Quercy (6km) and Lauzerte (9km) both have supermarkets and all the shops and services a family is likely to need, and there are larger hypermarkets near Fumel (18km). All towns have good Tourist Information Offices full of local information.
The towns and villages all have their own historic features and stories to tell with many boasting a 'bastide' layout dating back to the 12th century or earlier. Wander the streets of timber lined buildings in a small hilltop town - little changed in 700 years, and enjoy a drink at one of the bars on the village square which has probably hosted the weekly market for the same length of time.
There is a market somewhere near every day where guests can get the freshest of foods and local delicacies direct from the producers, and there is a list of markets here. This area prides itself on the range and quality of food that is grown here, with acres of soft fruit orchards producing apples, apricots and plums for the delicious Pruneaux d'Agen, walnut and hazelnut groves, the famous Quercy melons, lavender, vegetables and more all growing alongside the more traditional cereal and sunflower crops.
Le Barry is very near the heart of the Cahors AOC wine producing area, with the noted Malbec grape widely grown in the Lot valley. There are hundreds of wineries nearby, most open for tasting and direct purchase as well as winery tours.
For the active there are miles of quiet country roads to explore by bicycle, and many off road 'VTT' (Velos Tous Terrain - Mountain bike) trails. The River Lot is only a few kilometres away with kayak hire, fishing and boat trips available. More adventurous canoeing and climbing can be found at the magnificent Aveyron Gorge around 50km to the south east.
The historic area includes large castles such as Biron and Bonaguil to the north, and to the south the Abbey and Cloisters at Moissac which are a World Heritage Site. The ancient pilgrim trail of Saint Jacques de Compostela passes through nearby Lauzerte and Montcuq with walkers a common site, and the whole area has a range of well documented and signed footpaths for Guests to explore. Another World Heritage site is found to the north of Cahors, with many of our guests raving about their visits to Rocamadour, a spectacular village on a cliff face, which is often combined with visits to one of the nearby cave systems that are open to visitors.
