    • This is a place that you don't come to by accident!

Castelsagrat is a sleepy village in rural Tarn-et-Garonne, based around the village square, some of which dates back to the 13th and 14th Century.  Today the square is tastefully laid out with flowers and free parking intertwined to give a pleasant relaxed air.

Around the square is the Mairie, a boulangerie, a bar/restaurant and small grocery store..... and underneath one of the white Quercy stone arches you will find La Maison de Drapier, historically a cloth merchant's house, now carefully renovated and modernised, but retaining a very great proportion of the character and charm of an ancient building.

With two spacious double bedrooms, and a supplementary bed available, La Maison de Drapier is a great base to explore the area, or to wander over to the boulangerie in the morning then relax with a coffee and the freshest of croissants and bread in the shaded courtyard at the rear of the house.

  • Please see the Floorplan to clarify the layout.

Entering La Place from the pavement under the arches, you will be in the modern well equipped kitchen with large dining table.

The first impression is one of space, and the size of the rooms reveals the property's history as a fabric merchants house where rooms were necessarily large to accommodate unrolling and measuring great lengths of fabric.

Featuring a large electric cooker and oven, microwave, and washing machine, the kitchen has a good range of utensils and crockery.

Beyond the kitchen area are the stairs to the first floor, with ancient bannisters and spindles bearing witness to the age of the house, and the spacious Sitting Area.

Access to the enclosed courtyard is through the Sitting area, with high walls and palms providing a private shady corner to enjoy.

The small plunge pool  is in the courtyard.

Returning to the stairs, on reaching the landing area there is a good space available, with a writing desk if some peace is needed from downstairs.

Turning to the left is a very large double bedroom, overlooking the courtyard at the rear of the house and this bedroom has a very good standard en suite shower room.

Back to the landing, and a door opens into an ante room to the Main bedroom. In this ante room are a Supplementary single bed and a shower room.

A second door leads into the very large double bedroom with impressive feature fireplace has windows overlooking the square.

  • The Courtyard at the rear of the property is decked, and has a selection of plants including some large shading palms.

A plunge pool is set up to help guests refresh themselves in hot weather and there is ample furniture including loungers for Guests comfort.

To the front of the property the door opens onto the covered arches that surround the village square.

The square has a number of attractive planters with shrubs and flowers, and almost opposite on the other side of the square about 70m away is the village boulangerie,  with the small grocery beside it.

The bar/restaurant is also on the square.

    La Place Castelsagrat

  • Castelsagrat is in delightful rolling countryside which is mainly agricultural, but within easy reach of the busier towns along the Garonne - Agen, Valence d'Agen and Moissac.

The area is dotted with historic characterful village with bars and restaurants on medieval squares, and several are hilltop villages offering spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.

For walkers and cyclists there are many well signed routes, on and off road, with the Garonne Canal cycle path a level easy ride for a family of mixed abilities to enjoy.

Weekly markets are held in most towns and villages, offering the freshest produce and delicious ready cooked meals for you to enjoy, and there are wine producers throughout the area offering tasting and direct purchase at attractive rates.

The 'must visit' attractions from Castelsagrat include nearby Montjoi, a traffic free village with even more character than Castelsagrat if that were possible, and the World Heritage site of the Abbey at Moissac.
