Pool Exclusive
Chênes d'Escayrac is a large house which contains two self-contained apartments, both sleeping 6 people. This makes it ideal for two families holidaying together, or for smaller parties away from the main months.
With a large spacious garden and a new large au au vent shelter under construction to replace the shed shown in the current images, there is ample outdoor space for an active family to enjoy Chênes d'Escayrac. There are also good indoor facilities including internet and TV.
The hamlet of Escayrac is in a very peaceful location between Montcuq and Castelnau Montratier and within easy driving distance of the main local centre of Cahors. The area is on the edge of the limestone Causse de Quercy, with mainly oak woodlands teeming with wildlife and other nature interest. For walkers, the St Jacques de Compostela GR65 route passes within a short distance of the house, and there are many other local walks and cycle rides for guests to explore.
Chênes d'Escayrac is available either as two apartments for a total of 12 people, or (in May, June and September) as a single apartment for up to 6 people and would make an ideal base for a couple or a small number walking or cycling in the area. (Note - only one let will be in progress at any time - if only one apartment is let out, the other will remain closed.
The two apartments occupy separate floors with separate entrances.
UPPER FLOOR
Accessed by traditional outdoor stone steps, the Upper floor is completely separate from the Lower floor, and the accommodation comprises:
LOWER FLOOR
Accessed through doors off the pool terrace, the Lower floor can be entirely separate from the Upper floor, and the accommodation comprises:
Doors from the lower level open onto the pool terrace.
There is parking available for at least three cars.
Outdoor furniture including sun loungers, shades, tables and chairs are provided.
The Swimming pool is 10m x 4m with integral steps for easy access.
Before Season 2020, the shed shown in the images will be removed, and a new au vent shelter, ideal for al fresco dining and supervision of outdoor activities will be constructed (Pictures to follow)
The whole area of Chênes d'Escayrac extends to approximately 0.4ha / 1 acre with a large grassed area a little away from the house ideal for ball games and recreation. A private path into the nearby woods leads off the field offering safe woodland walking down into the valley below.
The hamlet of Escayrac sits at the top of a slope and footpaths nearby offer a variety of chalkland and woodland walking with great views to the east over the tiny village of Lascabanes.
The GR 65 (Grand Randonée) St Jaques de Compostela runs about a mile from Escayrac and is just one of the well marked and recorded walks and cycle rides that can be found throughout the area.
For wine lovers, the Pech d'Auzonne organic winery is a short walk from Chênes d'Escayrac. Run by Jean Pierre Caumont and his English wife Claire, a warm welcome is assured, and language will not be a problem
Montcuq, the nearest town, has everything needed for day to day living with a thriving population including a good number of English residents, so it will be no surprise to hear English spoken. The weekly Sunday market is quite large, and ideal chance to get stock of the freshest most delicious local produce direct from the producers.
Montcuq also boast an excellent leisure lake (base de loisirs) set just above the town in a valley with well kept areas offering easy walking, and in season a large floating play centre on the lake with lifeguard supervised swimming.
Chênes d'Escayrac is an excellent location to explore the historic limestone landscape of the Causse de Quercy, with prehistoric dolmen and caves to explore as well as more recent Roman and French history to be found in a fascinating area with rich and varied natural content. Le Gorge d'Aveyron offers climbers and canoeists an adventurous challenge, as do some of the hills of the Causse. Intriguing villages such as St Cirq La Popie, perched high above the River Lot are popuar visits with their medieval construction a wonder to behold, quite apart from the spectacular views that can be enjoyed.
The area has an ever increasing network of well marked footpaths and cycle routes to explore, and details of many of these can be found on our sister website Cycle Walk Lot Dordogne
For a larger town experience, Cahors is approximately 40 mins north of Chênes d'Escayrac where the River Lot loops around the town and is crossed by the famous Pont Valentre, or for a city experience the fascinating blend of history, technology and gastronomy awaits visitors to Toulouse about 90mins to the south.
