Gite Souillac is situated in the north of the Lot département and make a great base to explore this historic and scenic area, with the splendid Dordogne river which is within 5 miles/8km. The historic and beautiful towns of Sarlat, Domme, Souillac and Gourdon are also close at hand with many historic and scenic features to explore
With comfortable accommodation of good quality, Gite Souillac and the sister gite Sarlat is suitable for families holidaying or groups of friends on activity breaks such as cycling, walking, photography and more.
The area around the Gite Souillac is level and ideal for exploring on two wheels, four wheels or two legs, and bicycles are available to hire locally if required.
The gite was developed from a historic tobacco drying barn, and there is an identical gite (ref 77SNC Gite Sarlat) adjoining: The two gites together are available as Gites Fajoles ref 23SDB, with discounts available for booking both together.
Gite Souillac is a good blend of a modern finish with traditional features, and is light and comfortable. The Gite sleeps up to 8 people in:
- 2 x Double bedrooms with King size beds
- 2 x Twin bedrooms
The gite enjoys a good spacious kitchen set up with electric cooker and oven, microwave and a good range of utensils.
Plenty of comfortable seating and Engish satellite television makes for comfortable evenings or in less clement weather, and there is wireless internet also. CD and MP3 players are available, along with an iPod dock.
There is a ground floor shower room with wc and an upstairs bathroom with shower over and wc.
Both gites are centrally heated which makes them suitable for guests at all times of the year, and long winter let terms are available.
Cot and high chair are available free of charge. Pets may be accommodated by prior arrangement: A supplementary charge is made for pets.
There is parking available for several cars beside the gites.
Each gite has an outdoor decked area with tables, seating and a charcoal barbecue for al fresco dining.
There is a large communal garden area on the other side of the gites where ball games can be played .
A secure bicycle store is planned for visiting cyclists. There are miles of relatively level roads, or more testing on or off road routes all around the countryside.
Those requiring swimming have the choice of several river beaches along the Dordogne, or there are several 'base de loisirs' in local towns offering lifeguard patrolled swimming and other leisure activities together..

The north Lot and Dordogne areas offer a wealth of attractions to all types of visitor: The rural location makes just the escape worthwhile, whilst miles of quiet country roads around make exploring by bicycle a natural attraction. Bicycle hire, including helmets and delivery can be ordered from Bike Hire Direct or there are several smaller companies in local towns who can help.
The spectacular scenery of the Dordogne river is only a short distance away with plenty of opportunity for fishing, canoeing/kayaking and other water based activities.
The historic towns of Sarlat, Domme, Gourdon and Souillac each have their own charm and appeal - the spectacular views over the river and Dordogne valley from Domme and the tiny historic streets of the old parts of Sarlat stand out as 'must do' places to visit. Each village has its own charm, and guests will always have their own favourites.
Other attractions within easy travelling distance include Rocamadour and the Causse de Quercy, a large limestone plateau with many interesting features. This also gives rise to cave systems, including the world famous caves of Lascaux with their prehistoric wall paintings.
There are castles aplenty to visit - several on the Dordogne river,including the very visible Montfort, or venture into the scenic hills of the south Périgord to find the complete castles of Biron and Bonaguil as the architecture and scenery begins to change from Périgourdine to Quercy.
Lovers of food and wine will never be disappointed with this area: The tiny vignoble of Domme is nearby, The Cahors AOC wine producing area is to the south and the Bergerac AOC to the west, all producing wines with distinct character, and many wineries offer tours, tastings and direct sales.
Food production is a major industry of the area, with the annual Truffle Festival in Sarlat a major attraction. Markets are always popular, with market days well publicised: For food lovers especially the journey south across the stunning scenery of the Périgord to Prayssac market on Friday will be rewarded with delicious foods from the town market and several other artisan producers in the town as well.

A Security Deposit is payable, and this is usually refunded (less any deductions) within one week of the end of your stay.
End of stay cleaning is not included in the rates, but can be ordered by quotation in advance of your stay.
