The small town of Puy L'Eveque is a historic crossing point on the river Lot, and towering over the river is one of the most photographed towns in the area. It has a good selection of shops, including a supermarket and several good restaurants, and is the home of an annual arts festival week each summer.
The first shop reached in the town from À La Brise is a boulangerie - approximately 400m from the property, so no problem to enjoy the freshest of croissants and bread every morning.
On either bank of the Lot in this area there are numerous wineries offering tastings and direct purchase of excellent Cahors wines.Further details can be obtained from information in The Area section of this site found on the menu at the top of this page.
Soft fruit is also produced in abundance, with apple, pear, peach and apricot orchards nearby alongside walnut trees and hazel groves.
Many of these products, both fresh and preserved, are available at the markets held in larger villages and towns throughout the region on most days of the week. Puy L'Eveque market is on a Tuesday morning, and nearby Prayssac on a Friday morning. A list covering other villages is in the Area information at the top of the page.
Being near a crossing point on the river gives Guests the opportunity to easily access the rolling countryside of the Quercy Blanc and the medieval towns of Montaigu de Quercy, Lauzerte and Montcuq, or travel north into the beautiful chestnut clad hills of the Bouriane area around Cazals and Gourdon before they slope down to the majestic Dordogne river with the valleys filled with castles, and charming towns such as Sarlat and Domme.
Major tourist attractions are accessible with Rocamadour about an hour away, and Pech Merle and St Cirq La Popie immediately upstream beyond the historic town of Cahors.
