Dordogne Gite Mireille offers quality accommodation in a very peaceful end of road location just 2km from the beautiful Dordogne village of Saint-Pompont, and has comfortable and spacious facilities for 4 people in an ensuite double bedroom and a twin bedroom.
Approaching through flower meadows and fields, the view from Mireille overlooks an unspoiled valley with a southerly aspect. It is easy to spend your time relaxing at Gite Mireille, or there is the spectacular Dordogne valley within a few miles to explore, with the superb views from Domme just 20 minutes away by car, or the elegant streets of Sarlat around 30 minutes away by car among many other delightful towns, villages and chateaux for which the area is noted. To the south and east are the chestnut covered hills of the Bouriane and Périgord Noir, spectacular in Autumn, which soon lead down to the impressive River Lot around Cahors.
Mireille and the sister gites make an ideal base for exploring on four wheels or two, and there are now hundreds of well marked walks to suit all abilities in the area.
The house has recently revealed a very interesting history. It was built in the early 1700s on the site of a former Protestant church for Sieur (Lord) Maniers, the Procurer (tax collector) for the long lived King Louis XIV. Recent discoveries include an underground escape tunnel from the house up to a nearby farm, such was the unpopularity of tax collectors.
Entering Mireille through the wisteria clad front, you are in the spacious Kitchen / Dining and Living area. With a high ceiling there is a pleasant airy feeling in the well decorated and maintained room.
The quality Kitchen includes cooker with hob and oven, microwave, Fridge/freezer and washing machine. There is ample storage and workspace.
The Dining area has a good size dining table seating 4, and the Lounge area has comfortable seating with English Satellite television and Netflix. Doors from the Lounge area lead into a Garden room/ Conservatory with easy seating and an informal table and chairs. With a south easterly aspect, this makes a really great place to enjoy breakfast. Doors lead to the private enclosed garden.
There are two good sized Ensuite bedrooms: One double, and one Twin.
The deluxe bathrooms have heated towel rails. Being on the south side of the house, both bedrooms are light and airy, and enjoy views across the valley.
Returning to the Garden Room, Guests step into a private enclosed garden with sunloungers, outdoor furniture and a charcoal barbecue. All this enjoyed with a stunning view across the valley to wooded hills beyond
There is no passing traffic, and there are secure off road parking spaces.
Dordogne Gite Mireille has two sister gites close by, but carefully laid out so that a good degree of privacy is assured for all. This makes it ideal perhaps for two or three couples travelling together who may not want to share the same accommodation. The Dordogne valley has many towns, villages and chateaux of note to explore among beautiful countryside which changes steadily throughout the year. The wild flowers in spring and the autumn colours of the predominant chestnut and oak trees make wonderful spectacles away from the main summer season.
Other attractions include caves such as le Gouffre de Padirac, Pech Merle and the world famous Lascaux Caves. There are also the beautiful historic cliff villages of Rocamadour and St Cirq La Popie.
To the east along the Dordogne is the character town of Bergerac, surrounded by thousands of acres of vines offering the chance for sampling Bergerac wines, or for a deeper flavoured red wine the wineries of the Cahors AOP are only a few miles to the south along the River Lot around Prayssac.
Traditional markets are held somewhere nearby every day of the week, with the Friday market at Prayssac renowned for quality food. All towns and most villages have good restaurants where the most is made of the local produce: Guests are never short of good food in this part of France.

From Other Guests
"This is one of the most lovely gites we have stayed in. It is beautifully furnished and fitted out - the photographs do not really do it justice - and very comfortable. It is in a quiet but very attractive part of the Dordogne within easy reach of all the main sites, and there are fantastic views from the bedrooms and garden. The nearby village is very pleasant and has a really excellent restaurant. Finally. David is a perfect host - friendly, welcoming and helpful without being intrusive."
