The Quercy countryside around Plaine de Leygues holds a wealth of interest for anyone interested in natural history, history or anything to do with food,
Typical of the historical interest is the Eglise Saint-Caprais de Marcoux, just a couple of hundred metres from Plaine de Leygues which was started in the 12th century, and there are many similar churches and ancient monuments to explore throughout the area.
Beauville, the nearest village, sits in a promontory with commanding views over the surrounding countryside, Like many villages in the area, it boasts a wealth of medieval and period buildings, and the views from the village are among the best in the Quercy region. Of particular note on the north eastern side of the village is the 'Jardin des Indes', a garden area which is dedicated to some North American Indian Tribesmen who became abandoned by the travelling show they were with in France in the 19th Century, and connections were made with Beauville as local people cared for them and eventually raised enough to get them back home.
Food and gastronomy will be found wherever you look locally: The fields are an ever changing tapestry of growing crops, which in turn find their way to markets which are held somewhere locally every day of the week, and then in turn again find their way to the kitchens of the many restaurants in the area producing excellent quality food at reasonable prices: Please see The Area information above for more details on Markets and where to eat out.
The River Lot also provides much recreational outlet with canoe/kayak hire, boat hire, fishing and other river related activities.
The largest attraction in the area is the UNESCO World Heritage site at Moissac, with the historic abbey and cloisters on the banks of the Garonne providing an evocative visit.
