New to our list for Summer 2017, Les Vignes is a large renovated Quercy style house dating from 1890 in the heart of the Cahors AOC wine producing area - so much in the heart that the vines run to the fence of the property, hence the name.

Offering spacious accommodation for up to 8 people over three floors, the style of the house is open and contemporary, with the middle floor a completely open plan Kitchen/Diner/Living room. The spacious garden, newly landscaped, is level with space for family recreation, and a shaded terrace has superb views over the Lot valley to the west, offering the best of sunsets with a cool drink and barbecue in hand.

Les Vignes is ideally situated to explore the historic villages to the south, or the dramatic castles and wooded scenery of the south Perigord to the north of the River Lot. The river itself offers many opportunities for recreation and relaxation as well with the beautiful riverside village of Puy L'Eveque only 5km away.

The Accommodation

Arriving at Les Vignes, a short driveway leads to a parking area for four cars at least: Metal gates open into the garden with the view of the house as seen in the main picture above

Les Vignes has three storeys: The main entrance as in the main picture above is onto the First Floor.

Entering through the main door, once you pass through the entrance lobby area you find the whole of this floor devoted to an open plan Kitchen/ Dining/ Living room arrangement in a contemporary minimal style.

30reckit1The Kitchen area has a good run of fitted units and a breakfast bar.  A good range of equipment includes a gas hob with electric oven, microwave oven and dishwasher

A door beside the Kitchen area leads out onto the decked west terrace,

A large dining table and chairs seating 8 people is close to the kitchen area with a commanding traditional Quercy fireplace beside it

At the other end of the room is a very large L shaped sofa arrangement, with Television and DVD player available: There is plenty of space for 8 people to eat and relax on this level.



Stairs lead UP to the second floor which comprises:
 - Very large bedroom with beams. Double bed. Hanging and storage space.
 - Spacious bedroom with Twin beds. Hanging and storage space.
 - Shower room with wc and basin.


Returning to the First Floor, stairs lead DOWN to the Ground floor which comprises
 - Spacious Double bedroom with hanging and storage space
 - Spacious Master bedroom with hanging and storage space: External door opening out onto the pool area.
 - Quality shower room with wc and basin.
 - Laundry room with washing machine and tumble drier: Services.

 Please note that the stairs at Les Vignes are quite steep and unlikely to be suitable for anyone unsure on stairs.

Les Vignes has good sized garden areas on both sides of the house for more energetic members of the party to enjoy.

On one side of the north garden is the 9 x 4m pool, with garden furniture including sun loungers and sun shades. The pool has integral steps, and enjoys a glorious countryside view over the neigbouring vineyards.

On the south side of the house, in the shade of a large mature oak tree, is a good sized decking area with tables and chairs. Railings protect the open sides, and there are steops down onto the lawn. The view to the west over the Lot Valley is far reaching, with plunging tree lined valleys. This is the direction of the sunset which many will enjoy with a drink. A charcoal barbeque is provided.

 Around the area

30 vignesviewannFloressas is a small village on the level ground overlooking the Lot valley. There are far reaching views over spectacular countryside all around, and some of the finest Cahors AOC wines are produced in the village, especially Chateau Chambert which has its own bistro in addition to tastings and winery tours. A Chambert red wine was named in the world's Top 50 wines in 2016. The operation is organically run, with a good deal of weed control entrusted to a small herd of Highland cattle.

The beautiful village of Puy L'Eveque, just 5km away on the river Lot, is one of the most picturesque villages on the Lot valley, with most everyday needs available here: There are large superstores at Montayral about 9km from Les Vignes for more significant shopping.

Market 1Markets are a way of life in this area of France, and Les Vignes is well situated for the significant markets at Montsempron Libos (Thursday - large market with a wide range), Prayssac ( Friday - excellent food market) and Montaigu de Quercy (Saturday - good food market) Information on other markets and market days in the area can be found in the Area information HERE : Whatever you do, don't miss the chance to get the freshest and most delicious foods in the area.

Eating out is generally not expensive, and quality is very good: See the house information, or the Area information above for restaurant recommendations.

To the south of Floressas, the countryside opens into the rolling Quercy countryside with a patchwork of varied crops changing through the year - besides common cereals and sunflowers you will see walnut and hazelnut groves, melons and vegetables and acres of soft fruit orchards, many of them being plum trees from which the famour Pruneaux d'Agen are produced. There are museums and visitor centres dedicated to all sorts of food products nearby,

The villages of the Quercy area have may old buildings and several are old hilltop fortified villages, making fascinating visits.

biron0717To the north a good day tour can be made up taking in the medieval castles of Bonaguil and Biron, the spectacular ruined castle at Gauvadun and the beautiful medieval villages of Monpazier, Villereal and Monflanquin: Those venturing a little further north might take in Issiegac and the larger regional centre of Bergerac, on the Dordogne river. 

There is plenty of opportunity for activities on the River Lot, with kayak and canoe hire, boat hire, fishing and much more.

Major attractions further afield include the Roman town of Cahors and the ancient Pont Valentre, world famous cave systems at Pech Merle and Lascaux, the famous hillside villages of Rocamadour and St Cirq La Popie and the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Abbey and Cloisters at Moissac. 
The city experience will see the visitor heading for either Toulouse or Bordeaux, both about two hours away but offering very different things to the traveller: More details under the Area above.

A Security Deposit is also payable, and this is usually refunded (less any deductions) within one week of the end of your stay.
