Couly Bas sits on its own in an elevated position above the Seôune valley, over which it has superb views from the pool terrace.
A large spacious building with origins as far back as the 15th century, it retains much original character and many original features. Accommodation over three floors gives ample space for families to enjoy their stay together or apart as they choose.
With 2ha (5 acres) to explore, Couly Bas makes a very good place for a large family to holiday. Having a downstairs bedroom with large sitting area and its own access to a quiet garden at the rear makes Couly Bas very suitable to families travelling with different generations.
The house is situated less than half a mile from a crossroads giving excellent access to north, south, east and west along the quiet country roads in the area.
Arriving at Couly Bas you drive up the sloping private drive and turn into the gravelled parking area which has space for several cars.
A pleasant flower border separates the gravelled area from the lawn and swimming pool terrace, and the array of flowers is a fine welcome to Couly Bas. There are two buildings at Couly Bas: Guest accommodation is in the taller house in front on the left as you arrive.
There is a small flight of stone steps at the entrance, and you enter the house with the stairs to the first floor on the left. Leading on straight ahead is an inner hall, off which is a Ground floor Bathroom with bath, shower and wc.
At the end of the Hall is a large open Bedroom/Sitting room with a Double 4 poster bed on one side, and a comfortable seating area with armchairs on the other.
Glazed doors lead out to a small terrace on the north side of the house which is shaded during the day and private. The terrace overlooks a large grassed area which is bounded by woodland on all sides.
Returning to the stairs, the original timber steps lead up to the Farmhouse style kitchen on the first floor which has a beautiful old tiled fireplace and a decorative stove. A good range of equipment includes hob & Oven, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment and a range of utensils. There is also a large oak dining table and chairs.
Leading out from the Kitchen, the first room is the main Sitting room with comfortable chairs and sofas. Entertainment is provided by a radio/cd player, and TV/DVD combination. The room is pleasantly furnished with a selection of antiques to give a very pleasant and relaxing ambiance.
Also off the hallway are two Bedrooms, a Double and a Twin. There is a separate Shower room with wc and basin.
Stairs from the Sitting room lead up to a very large Loft Room with sloping ceilings and exposed timbers which has four single beds, and also a pool table - a great space for the younger members of the party to leave the adults in peace.
There is a Laundry / Utility room off the Ground floor hall which has a Washing Machine, ironing board and other utility equipment, as well as plenty of space for storage of outdoor items.
Woodland behind the house can be explored, and there is also a large grassed area ideal for ball games on the north side of the house. In total there is 2ha (5 acres) that guests can explore.
Beside the Parking area is a long open fronted barn with charcoal barbecue from which the pool and terrace can be observed.
The exclusive 10 x 5m pool has an alarm system, and water purity is maintained by salt. It can be heated at additional cost. Sun loungers and poolside furniture are provided. A small lawned area beside offers an alternative area, with tall shrubs and trees beside it offering shade.
The pool terrace enjoys a spectacular view over the countryside.

Being near a crossroads for two of the countryside arterial roads, Couly Bas is very well placed for accessing other parts of the area in all directions. The nearest village is Touffailles with limited shopping: Montaigu de Quercy or Lauzerte, both about 7km away north and south respectively both have supermarkets and a good selection of restaurants.
The landscape is agricultural, with many acres of sunflowers, maize and other crops in the fields alongsides fruit orchards, vineyards and vegetables, Much of the produce is available directly from artisan producers at local markets, held in large villages and towns somewhere nearby every day: a list is in The Area information above. Many wineries offer tasting and direct purchase, and some are listed under The Area and in Links above.
Much of this produce also finds its way to the large range of restaurants in the area, and with other local specialities such as duck, eating out is generally of excellent quality, and reasonably priced.
The area abounds with history and natural history: Many of the villages are medieval in origin, and have narrow streets with timbered buildings leading off the main square. All have their own character, but Lauzerte is of particular note, as it is included as one of 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France', and attracts many visitors to see the village and also the stunning views across the countryside as it occupies a fortified hilltop position.
Natural history is all around wherever you go, and any cycle ride or walk will bring you into communion with the great array of bird and plant life in the area.
Lauzerte is on one of the 'Routes de Saint Jacques' which converge near the Spanish border to become the route to Santiago de Compostela, an ancient pilgrims way. Walking is thus popular in the area with route maps and recommended walks available from Tourist information offices, the nearest being Montaigu de Quercy and Lauzerte.
For water based activities, Montaigu de Quercy has a water park with lifeguard patrolled (in season) safe swimming off a large sandy beach area, pedalo and boat hire, zip wires across the lake and bars and restaurants. The River Lot, a little further away, offers boats, fishing and river cruises wherever it is reached, and the historic towns of Villeneuve sur Lot and Cahors, both with Roman connections, are on the river as well.
The area to the north of the Lot is spectacular countryside, with Chateau Biron and Chateau de Bonaguil popular visitor attractions before the slopes change down to the Dordogne and Bergerac.
Other popular towns to visit are Moissac with the noted cloisters and abbey, and Montauban with its delightful pink stone buildings on the banks of the river Tarn. A little further afield the majestic Aveyron Gorge offers spectacular scenery.
