Le Bugat sits at the end of its own road just outside a delightful sleepy village, and with maturing trees around it looks impressive in its countryside setting.
Originally a tobacco barn, the renovation was completed relatively recently to provide modern airy family accommodation for up to 10 people: With ground floor bathroom and bedroom and level access, Le Bugat is a good choice for those seeking accommodation for a relative with mobility issues
At the same time as the renovation was done, the grounds were landscaped. and those plantings are now rapidly maturing with fig trees, peach trees and grape vines all now producing fruit. This has presented several shady and sunny places alike for those who enjoy living outside, and there is a good selection of outdoor furniture available for guests.
The pool and terrace enjoys spectacular open views over the surrounding agricultural countryside, and one of the most breathtaking landscape views in the area is found within sight of Le Bugat on the road south towards Massoulés
Arriving at Le Bugat along its own private road, there is an open barn beside the road that provides sheltered parking for two or three vehicles.
Entering Le Bugat you walk into the large Kitchen/ Dining room / Sitting room which occupies over two thirds of the ground floor.
The Kitchen design is simple and traditional, but a good range of equipment includes a gas hob, electric oven, microwave oven, food processor, coffee makers, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier.
The large Dining Table seats 8 comfortably, and in the Sitting area there are large sofas with other soft chairs with the satellite Television and DVD player on hand, as well as a separate CD player.
Large windows ensure this large room remains light at all times, and any of the windows can be opened to take advantage of any breeze as necessary.
Immediately beside these French doors is the downstairs Shower room, including basin and wc, and immediately beside this again is the downstairs Twin bedroom with dual aspect windows, ensuring light and views. French doors open onto the enclosed garden with an outdoor shaded sitting area, the shade being provided by a maturing vine.
Up the modern and easy staircase are three bedrooms: The Master Double bedroom has an ensuite Shower room with twin basins and wc: There is also a supplementary single bed available in this room if required, and a second supplementary single bed is available in a curtained off area on the landing.
The other two bedrooms are both Twin bedded, and are situated either side of the upstairs bathroom with Bath, basin and wc.
Le Bugat has a dlightful selection of plantings, with figs, peaches, olives and more growing among other herbaceous shrubs and flowers.
A former walled garden offers a sheltered and private outdoor area with a wooden bench on one side, and a table and chairs under a sheltering vine on the other. The wall is covered by a colourful creeper.
A barbecue is provided for use here or elsewhere.
Other shady corners have furniture available for outdoor living.
The landscaped area extends right around the property, and with several mature trees included, peace, shade and privacy are not hard to find together.
The 10 x 5m alarmed pool is a salt water pool, and has Roman steps for easy access, and the surrounding terrace enjoys unspoilt countryside views. Shades and loungers offer guests the chance to enjoy the pool terrace to the maximum.
Beside the pool terrace is a meadow which is carefully managed to give a changing display of wild flowers throughout the season> This in turn gives guests a show of delightful meadow butterflies
The Owners of Le Bugat will accept pets by prior arrangement (although they themselves have small dogs) and there is ample space, including the road into Le Bugat and around the area, to exercise pets.

Le Bugat (just right of centre in this image) sits just beyond a ridge of land from which some of the finest landscape views in the area will be seen: Similar views will be found almost anywhere along this ridge looking over the Lot valley towards the Dordogne, with some of the Bastide towns clearly visible, and also chateaux among seemingly miles of rolling landscape.
The medieval villages of Penne d'Agenais and Tournon d'Agenais are nearby. Both are worth exploring for the medieval buildings and further tremendous views from the ramparts of the ancient fortified bastides. At the peak of Penne d'Agenais stands the interesting church of Notre Dame de Peyragaude which has many interesting features including a silvered cupola, and some caves behind the church with shrines. Penne d'Agenais also has its 'Port Penne' where the bridge spans the river Lot, and this is the site of the weekly market - one of many throughout the region which are on every day of the week: A list of the market days is can be found under The Area information at the top of this page. Villeneuve sur Lot has Roman connections, and is the nearest town offering a wide range of shopping.
Other villages to visit include Lauzerte, one of the 'Plus Beaux villages de France' with its famous medieval square and streets.
The area between Agen, Cahors and Toulouse is truly a food basket - soft fruit, nuts, wine, cheese, honey, vegetables are all produced here, and many more foods will be seen growing in the fields as you travel around the area. Many of these will be available fresh at the markets listed above. The wineries of the Cahors AOC lie along the River Lot, and within a few miles you will be at Le Vin du Tsar and the English owned Domaine du Garinet, both linked to above. These offer wine tastings as do others listed in the general area information.
Gastronauts will be spoiled at Le Bugat, with the noted Moulin de Dausse restaurant nearby offering a very different dining experience - but you must book. Other excellent restaurants are found in Penne d'Agenais,, Saint Sylvestre, Tournon d'Agenais and Montaigu de Quercy, as well as a little further afield in Villeneuve sur Lot
For the active, the countryside yearns to be explored on foot or by bicycle, with areas of gentle rolling countryside and quiet roads. Water activities can be found wherever the River Lot is accessed, and there is also a large water park at Montaigu de Quercy with pedalos, swimming, beach area, tennis court and bars.
